Angel's Thanatos is the theme song of Angela in the game. Although it isn't played anywhere during the actual gameplay it is the music playing during the credits for the "In Water" ending, in which James kills himself. To get this ending you have to, among other things, check Angela's knife often. There isn't a clear reference to Angela in the song since it as no lyrics but the name, Angel's Thanatos, does have something to do with Angela's fate.
The word thanatos is a term in psychology and was named by Sigmund Freud. Thanatos is the name given to the so called "drive for death", or a human's instinct-like striving to stop, end, despise and to reject everything that brings pleasure and joy of living. This is basically the opposite for libido which is the drive for life, sexuality and energy. As we know, Angela acted quite suicidal during the whole game and she had lost all her will to live although it wasn't really her fault what her father had done to her, yet she felt quilty of killing him. Melodramatically we could say she is an angel who has lost her will to live and has accepted to fall to her death. Pretty much what Angel's Thanatos means. << back |
